Have you also made a few mistakes when choosing a bedsheet? Did you misjudge the size or choose the wrong material? We will advise you on how to select a bedsheet, the right size, and the ideal material for your needs. In this article you will get the answer to the question: How to choose a bed sheet?
What to watch out for!
- Pay attention to the quality of the bed sheet. One of the basic indicators of quality is the weight per square meter. This numerical value tells us the amount of fiber used per 1 m2. However, a higher weight per square meter does not always mean higher quality. The quality of the used fiber is also important.
- The price can also reveal a lot. Processing quality cotton is more expensive because it requires a long process of mercerization, so the price of a bedsheet made from these fibers will be somewhat higher than a cotton bedsheet with a blend.
- Fixing to the mattress. You can opt for the so-called sheet, with which the bed adjustment is more difficult, although it has many other uses: for the sauna, protection of furniture during painting, protection of the car seat, etc. And then there’s the tension sheet with sewn-in elastic. It’s easy to work with and the sheet always looks neat.
What to clarify before buying sheets
1. Sheet size
The dimensions of the mattress are decisive, the most common size of the sheet is 90 × 220 cm. Simply measure the mattress before buying. In addition to the length (200 or 220 cm) and width (usually 80 or 90 cm), the height of the mattress is also important. It is usually 20 cm, in the case of higher mattresses (40 cm) choose a flat sheet for high mattresses.
Ideally, a large sheet should cover the entire mattress, including the sides, so that the exposed part of the mattress is not visible. If your mattress measures 90 × 200 cm, buy a stretch sheet with elastic in the same 90 × 200 cm size. This will hug the mattress nicely and keep the top part flat.
2. Sheet material
Or what do you expect from a sheet? There is a whole range of materials – jersey is suitable for year-round use, micro plush is more suitable for winter, satin for summer, …
